Надійний (і безкоштовний) DNS
Отже, все дуже просто, бо виходимо ми з міркування, що вірогідність того, що повністю одночасно поваляться два сервіси - нікчемно мала. А тому, замість того, щоб хостити свої NS записи у одного провайдера (будь то або ), ми робимо один з них primary DNS а другий призначаємо як secondary.
Наприклад, домен essentialmind.com має три NS записи: два указують на xname.org і один на afraid.org. На сервісі afraid.org домен внесений до реєстру як «secondary», а тому автоматом синхронізується з В«primaryВ» записами на xname.org. У результаті маємо досить стійку і, що важливо, швидку систему нейм серверів.
Взагалі-то, в RFC написано, що DNS серверів повинно бути як мінімум два і вони повинні знаходитися в різних мережах класу «С». Що на практиці 30 років тому означало «в різних містах»; сьогодні ж реальність така, що різні адреси мереж класу «С» можуть легко знаходитися в одному запорошеному підвалі. Що і веде до перебоїв сервісів подібним xname і afraid.
